Playa Joyel Campsite

Playa Joyel Campsite

This campsite is positioned on the North Coast of Spain on the Costa Verde - the Spanish "Green" coast, so named because of its wealth of plant life and the site itself is surrounded by a nature reserve. The campsite has fantastic facilities and is close to the Santander (49km) and Bilbao (72 km) ferry ports. It is only 1km from the town of Noja, where you will find a few restaurants. We found it was useful to have learned a little tourist Spanish as not everywhere spoke English, however the staff on the campsite mostly were able to speak English and were friendly and helpful, including in the reception where English is spoken.

Playa Joyel is a large campsite (1000 pitches) and has direct access to a lovely wide fine sandy beach with stunning views and clear shallow water, where you can see fish swimming. Also there are rock pools. We found the sea to be great for body boarding but also for younger children to have a paddle too! But please check for yourself if you feel the sea is safe as it may depend on the weather when you are there etc.

Camping Playa Joyel has a main pool as well as a shallower children's pool (with a depth of 0.5m). Please note that you need a swimming hat at this campsite and traditional speedo style swimming trunks for men rather than the shorts type.

This Spanish campsite is popular with families but it is also in a good location if you want to take a few days stopover when travelling by ferry to/from Santander.

Things to Do in the Area

The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum building itself is an incredible example of modern architecture with its fantastic silver strangely shaped bulding and inside it contains absolutely no flat surfaces apart from the floor.

The museum is widely recognised as being one of the top museums displaying modern art.

We cannot guarantee that descriptions on this site are accurate, up to date or free from error. Some people prefer a busy campsite with lots of activities while someone else may love a quiet campsite with a small swimming pool. Actually we tend to be the latter ! So what we have done is highlight the good points of the sites and maybe point out a few of what we have found as slightly negative points. However we strongly recommend that you make full use of as many internet sources as possible before deciding about your holiday, including Google maps etc.
